No. 8 SMCC Softball Wraps Up Regular Season with Sweep of PVCC

The No. 8 South Mountain Community College softball team (44-11, 35-7 ACCAC) wrapped up its 2026 regular season with a sweep of Paradise Valley CC in an ACCAC Division II doubleheader on Tuesday, April 28. Sophomores Tazia Blake and Kaeliann Glass and freshman GG Moreno hit homers, and sophomore Sadie Su'a tossed a no-hitter in the circle in a 20-0, five-inning victory in game one. In the second game, freshman Leah Alcala, sophomore Jerzey Jarvis, and Su'a blasted home runs, and sophomore Aryka Ortega picked up her 14th win of the year in a 15-1, six-inning victory.
Game One Recap
The Cougars scored six runs in the second, 10 in the third, and four in the fourth en route to the run-rule victory.
Blake led off the second with a solo homer, her fourth of the season. She finished 1 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs in the victory.
Glass blasted a two-run home run later in the second, her sixth of the year. She went 1 for 2 with three runs, three RBIs, and three walks.
Moreno belted a two-run homer, her 12th of the season, in the fourth. She was 1 for 2 with one run, two RBIs, and a walk.
Jarvis and sophomore Eva Harrison led SMCC with two hits apiece. Jarvis roped a pair of doubles and added two runs and two RBIs, while Harrison tripled, scored three times and drove in two.
Alcala and sophomore Azlynn Madrid collected doubles in the win. Alcala was 1 for 2 with a run, an RBI and a walk, while Madrid drove in three, scored once, and stole a base.
All that was more than enough offense for Su'a (15-2), who threw the first no-hitter of her SMCC career. She walked four batters, but fanned seven.
Game Two Recap
The Cougars' offense continued to roll in game two, with the team collecting eight extra-base hits.
Alcala blasted a two-run home run in the third, her eighth of the year, and finished 3 for 4 with two runs, four RBIs, and her 19th double of the season.
Jarvis and Su'a went back-to-back in the sixth. The home run, a three-run shot, was the first of the season for Jarvis, and she went 2 for 4 with four runs, three RBIs, one walk, and one double.
Su'a roped her team-leading 14th home run in the frame, and was 4 for 5 with three runs, three RBIs, a stolen base, and a triple.
Glass went 3 for 4 with two runs, one RBI, and a double, and freshman Samantha Macnab had the team's fourth double. She finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.
Sophomore Alyssa Jemio had two hits, one run, and one RBI, and sophomore Brooklynn Wishart had a run, a single, a stolen base, and an RBI.
Ortega (14-4) was outstanding in the circle to earn the win for the Cougars. She allowed two hits, one earned run, and one walk to go with three strikeouts.
