PHOENIX ---

The No. 14 South Mountain Community College softball team (24-10, 20-6 ACCAC Division II) swept an ACCAC Division II home doubleheader with Scottsdale CC on Tuesday, Mar. 24, winning 4-3 and 10-2 (5 innings) at the SMCC Softball Field. Sophomore Eva Harrison hit a key two-out, two-run double and scored on an error in the sixth to tie game one, and sophomore Kaeliann Glass brought in sophomore Sadie Su'a in the seventh with an RBI single. In game two, the Cougar offense exploded for three home runs, and a seven-run fifth inning saw sophomore Alyssa Jemio end the game early with an RBI single to enact the run-rule victory.

The Fighting Artichokes led 1-0 through five innings and hit a two-run home run to lead 3-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth.

With two outs in the frame, freshman Leah Alcala singled and sophomore Tazia Blake reached on an error. After a successful double steal, Harrison lined a double into left that plated the two easily. Alcala was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI, while sophomore Jerzey Jarvis added a sac bunt and a stolen base.

Blake, Harrison, sophomore Azlynn Madrid, and freshman Samantha Macnab added RBIs in the seven-run fifth to seal the victory.
