No. 10 SMCC Softball Sweeps Glendale CC in ACCAC Division II Twin Bill

The No. 10 South Mountain Community College softball team (40-11, 31-7 ACCAC Division II) swept an ACCAC Division II doubleheader at Glendale CC on Tuesday, April 21, winning 6-1 and 20-1 (5 innings). Sophomore Sadie Su'a and freshman GG Moreno hit home runs in both victories for the Cougars, and Su'a and sophomore Aryka Ortega recorded victories in the circle.
 
Game One Recap
 
Su'a started the game with a blast, launching a two-run home run in the first that scored sophomore Jerzey Jarvis.
 
In the second, Moreno made it 3-0 SMCC with an RBI single that brought in sophomore Eva Harrison. She then scored on an RBI double from Jarvis, and sophomore Alyssa Jemio drove her in with an RBI groundout to put SMCC up 5-0.
 
Moreno smacked a solo home run to start the sixth to conclude the scoring. She finished 2 for 3 with two runs, two RBIs, and her ninth home run of the season.
 
Jarvis finished with 3 for 4 with two runs, one RBI, a stolen base, and a double. Harrison, Su'a, and freshman Gabby Rodriguez added stolen bases in the win.
 
Ortega (12-4) earned the win in the circle with four innings of relief work. She allowed four hits, one unearned run, and two walks to go with two strikeouts. Su'a started the game and went three innings with one hit, three walks, and one strikeout.
 
Game Two Recap
 
Leading 2-1 at the start of the third, the Cougars scored 10 runs in the frame and added five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to post a 20-1 victory.
 
Moreno hit a three-run home run in the third, her 10th of the season, that scored Jemio and freshman Leah Alcala. Freshman Samantha Macnab added an RBI double, and Su'a hit a second three-run home run in the inning to put SMCC ahead 10-1. Moreno later added another RBi single in the frame.
 
Su'a went 3 for 5 with four runs, six RBIs, and her team-leading 12th home run of the season. Moreno was 3 for 5 with one run, and she tied a season high with five RBIs.  
 
Alcala and Glass each posted doubles and one RBI, with Alcala scoring twice and Glass coming home once. Macnab also had two hits to go with a run and an RBI, and sophomore Azlynn Madrid scored twice. Jarvis scored three times and stole two bases.
 
Su'a (13-2) earned the win after going three innings in the circle. She allowed two hits, one earned run, and two walks while fanning three. Ortega tossed the final two innings and allowed one walk and no hits to go with one punchout.
