No. 15 SMCC Softball Sweeps League Twin Bill at Mesa CC

The No. 15 South Mountain Community College softball team (17-9, 15-5 ACCAC Division II) swept an ACCAC Division II doubleheader at Mesa CC on Tuesday, Mar. 10, winning game one 5-1 before claiming game two 23-4 (5 innings). Over the two games, sophomore Kaeliann Glass posted six hits, including three doubles, and six RBIs, and sophomore Sadie Su'a had five hits, five runs, and seven RBIs to lead the Cougars to the sweep of the Thunderbirds.
Game One Recap
SMCC got single runs in five different innings to post the 5-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader against the Thunderbirds.
Sophomore Brooklynn Wishart drew a walk to start the game, stole second and third, and scored on an error off the bat of Su'a.
After the Thunderbirds tied the game in their half of the first, the Cougars took the lead in the second when freshman Leah Alcala drew a walk, stole second and third, and scored on an RBI groundout from freshman GG Moreno.
In the third, Wishart tripled to start the inning and scored on an RBI double from Su'a. Alcala blasted a solo home run, her third of the season, in the fifth to put SMCC ahead 4-1, and Glass picked up an RBI double that scored Su'a in the sixth.
Sophomore Eva Harrison led the Cougars with three hits in the victory, and Wishart, Glass, and sophomore Alyssa Jemio had two hits apiece. Wishart had three stolen bases, Alcala and Harrison recorded two, and Su'a had the team's eighth stolen base.
Jemio (7-3) earned the win in the circle with four innings of work. She allowed three hits, one unearned run, and posted two strikeouts. Su'a recorded her second save of the year with three innings of relief that featured two K's.
Game Two Recap
The Cougars scored 11 runs in the first inning en route to the 23-4, five-inning victory in game two of the twin bill.
Su'a was a perfect 4 for 4 with four runs, six RBIs, a double, and a stolen base, while Glass was 4 for 5 with three runs, five RBIs, and two doubles.
Sophomore Tazia Blake was 3 for 5 with two runs, two doubles, and an RBI, and Alcala was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, a run, and a double. Fellow sophomore Jerzey Jarvis was 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs, and a stolen base.
Freshman Aliyah Madrid had the team's seventh double and finished 1 for 2 with two runs and one RBI. Jemio was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run, and Wishart, Moreno, and freshman Gabby Rodriguez scored two runs apiece.
Sophomore Aryka Ortega (4-4) earned the win with five innings of work in the circle. She allowed nine hits and four earned runs while fanning five in the victory.
