SMCC Softball Sweeps ACCAC Doubleheader at Paradise Valley CC

The South Mountain Community College softball team (11-8, 10-4 ACCAC Division II) swept an ACCAC Division II doubleheader at Paradise Valley CC on Tuesday, Feb. 24, winning 22-0 (5 innings) and 18-0 (5 innings). Sophomore Kaeliann Glass belted two home runs, and freshman Leah Alcala added another in the game-one victory. In game two, sophomore Sadie Su'a smashed two home runs and freshman GG Moreno hit her third of the season as the Cougars rolled to the two victories.
 
Game One Recap
 
The Cougars scored multiple runs in all five frames to post the run-rule victory over the Pumas. SMCC totaled 23 hits, eight of which went for extra bases, and 21 RBIs in the win.
 
Glass hit solo home runs in the third and fourth, her second and third blasts of the year. She went 3 for 3 with three runs, three RBIs, and two walks.
 
Alcala set a new season high with her six RBIs and four runs, and finished 3 for 4 with two doubles and a three-run home run in the fourth.
 
Sophomores Sadie Su'a and Eva Harrison also had three hits apiece in the victory. Su'a was 3 for 5 with three runs, a double, and a stolen base, while Harrison was 3 for 3 with three runs, an RBI, a double, a walk, and a stolen base.
 
Moreno was 2 for 2 with three RBis and a run, and sophomore Brooklynn Wishart was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Freshman Samantha Macnab had the team's fifth double and added two RBIs, and freshman Gabby Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
 
Freshman Audrina Chacon came off the bench to go 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run, and sophomore Alyssa Jemio scored twice.
 
Jemio (6-2) picked up the win in the circle with five shutout innings. She allowed three hits, walked none, and fanned five.
 
Game Two Recap
 
The Cougars' offense continued to click in game two as they amassed 19 hits and scored multiple runs in four innings en route to another run-rule victory.  
 
Su'a was 4 for 4 with four runs, four RBIs, two home runs, and a triple. She hit a two-run shot in the fourth after blasting a solo shot in the second.
 
Sophomore Jerzey Jarvis was 3 for 5 with four RBIs, two runs, a double, and a triple. She led off the game with a double and roped a three-run triple in the fifth.
 
Moreno was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, a run, a sac fly, and a solo home run in the fourth. Alcala had the team's third double and went 1 for 3 with three runs, one RBI, and one walk.
 
Sophomore Azlynn Madrid went 2 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base, and Harrison was 2 for 4 with a run. Sophomore Tazia Blake scored three runs and added an RBI, and Glass was 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
 
Su'a (4-2) picked up her fourth win of the season with five shutout innings in the circle. She allowed a single in the first and fanned 11 Pumas.
