The No. 14 South Mountain Community College softball team (28-10, 22-6 ACCAC Division II) swept a non-conference doubleheader with Monroe University (NY) on Friday, Mar. 27 and then took two games from Paradise Valley CC in an ACCAC Division II doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 28. Sophomore GG Moreno had two doubles in both victories and sophomore Kaeliann Glass added three doubles over the Mustangs. The next day, Moreno hit for the cycle over two games against the Pumas to help lead the Cougars to a pair of important conference victories.

The Cougars swept the Mustangs 11-3 (6 innings) and 8-5 in a non-conference home doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 27.
In game one, SMCC led 2-0 through two innings, but Monroe responded with three runs in the top of the third. The Cougars tied the game in their half of the third, took the lead in the fifth, and posted a run-rule win with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Sophomores Sadie Su'a and Eva Harrison produced sac flies over the first two innings to put SMCC up early. Su'a tied the game with an RBI double in the third that scored sophomore Jerzey Jarvis. She then put SMCC ahead 4-3 with an RBI groundout in the fourth that brought in sophomore Azlynn Madrid.
In the sixth, Moreno posted a two-run double, and Harrison roped an RBI double to put SMCC ahead 7-3. Madrid singled to score Harrison, and she later scored on an error off the bat of sophomore Alyssa Jemio. Glass made it 10-3 with an RBI double, and another Mustang error allowed Jemio to score and end the game.
Jarvis and Moreno each had two hits in the win, with Jarvis scoring twice and stealing two bases while Moreno had two doubles, a stolen base, and two RBIs. Su'a led the Cougars with three RBIs, and Harrison drove in two. Jemio had two steals, and Madrid scored twice and stole one base.
Sophomore Aryka Ortega (7-4) earned the win in the circle for SMCC. She allowed nine hits and three earned runs over five innings, and fanned two. Su'a earned the save with an inning of relief work with two strikeouts.
SMCC won 8-5 in game two behind two doubles and three RBIs from Moreno and two runs, two doubles, and three RBIs from Glass.
Monroe scored twice in the top of the first, but SMCC answered with four in its half to take a 4-2 lead. The Mustangs immediately tied the game with two runs in the top of the second, but the Cougars answered with a run in the second to take the lead for good. They added two in the third and one in the fourth to seal the victory.
Harrison, Su'a, and Madrid also posted doubles in the win, and Jemio roped a triple. Jarvis and freshman Leah Alcala had stolen bases in the win.
Su'a (9-2) earned the win with four innings of relief work where she fanned five and allowed one hit, one earned run, and three walks. Jemio started the game and went three frames with seven hits, three earned runs, and three strikeouts.
Paradise Valley CC Recap
The Cougars swept the twin bill with the Pumas, winning 8-1 and 10-2 (5 innings), at home on Saturday, Mar. 28.
In game one, Moreno was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run and four RBIs. Jarvis led SMCC with three hits and added a run and a stolen base, and sophomore Tazia Blake was 2 for 4 with three runs and an RBI. Glass went 2 for 3 with a run.
After PVCC scored a run in the top of the first, SMCC scored five in its half of the first. The Cougars added a run in the third and two in the fifth to conclude the scoring.
Jemio (11-4) earned the win with a complete-game performance in the circle. She worked around three hits and one earned run to go with three strikeouts.
In game two, Glass and Moreno had two hits apiece in the 10-2, five-inning victory. Glass was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run, while Moreno had a double, a triple, a run, and an RBI. Jarvis scored twice, and six other Cougars scored.
Ortega (8-4) earned the win with five innings of work in the circle. She allowed nine hits and two earned runs to go with one strikeout.
