SMCC Softball Announces Four-Year Transfers

The South Mountain Community College softball team announced its four-year transfers after a successful 2025 season, head coach Kelley Montalvo announced. Sabrina ErranDionna LeanioJada Montoya, Sarah Potter, and Nadia Rascon helped the Cougars reach the Region I Division II Championship game in each of the last two seasons. 


Sabrina Erran, Infielder --- CSU Bakersfield

Erran appeared in 95 games for the Cougars over the 2024 and 2025 seasons, batting .264 with 70 runs, 67 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, 43 RBIs, 38 walks, and 23 stolen bases. As a sophomore, Erran had four multi-hit games, including a season-high three hits (two doubles) in a win at Scottsdale CC on Mar. 22. She drove in a season-high two RBIs twice, and scored a season-high three runs in wins over SCC, Lake Region State College, and Pima CC. 

As a freshman, Erran went 4 for 4 with two run, two doubles, and four RBIs against Lake Region State College on Mar. 6, and posted four RBis, a double, and a home run at Phoenix College on Mar. 12. She scored three runs at CGCC on Apr. 6, and had a season-high two steals three times. 

The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners are an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Big West Conference. 


Dionna Leanio, Outfielder --- Park-Gilbert 

A 2024 NJCAA Third Team All-American and two-time First Team All-ACCAC honoree, Leanio totaled 94 runs, 111 hits, seven doubles, three triples, 30 RBIs, 34 walks, and 36 stolen bases in 72 career games as a Cougar. In 2025, Leanio batted .439 with 53 runs, 61 hits, six doubles, three triples, 20 RBIs, 21 walks, and 13 stolen bases in 42 games, and produced 20 multi-hit games, including a season-high three hits eight times.  

Leanio led the ACCAC with a .521 batting average as a freshman in 2024, adding 41 runs, 50 hits, one double, 10 RBIs, 13 walks, and 23 stolen bases in 30 games. She recorded 14 multi-hit games against league opposition, including four-hit games against Pima CC and Scottsdale CC. She scored multiple runs in nine league games and had a season-high three stolen bases in a contest at Arizona Western. 

The Park-Gilbert Buccaneers are an NAIA program that competes in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference. 


Jada Montoya, Outfielder --- Park-Gilbert 

Montoya will join Leanio on the Buccaneers in 2026 after providing an offensive punch for the Cougars in 2025. In 52 games as a sophomore, Montoya batted .405 with 51 runs, 68 hits, 14 doubles, six triples, three home runs, 32 RBIs, nine walks, and 17 stolen bases. She had 20 multi-hit games, including four hits against Scottsdale CC in a Region I Division II Tournament Elimination game on May 9, and scored a season-high four runs in a win over Central Arizona on Feb. 8. Montoya had 10 multi-RBI games, including a season-high three RBIs against Mesa CC on Apr. 10, and homered against PVCC, Mesa CC, and GCC.

Sarah Potter, Outfielder --- Benedictine-Mesa

The last Cougar remaining from the 2023 Region I Division II Championship team, Potter will take her talents to Mesa to play for the Redhawks in 2026. Potter appeared in 64 games as a Cougar, compiling a .321 batting average with 46 runs, 52 hits, eight doubles, 12 home runs, 48 RBIs, and 27 walks. As a freshman on the 2023 squad, Potter played in 50 games and batted .323 with 37 runs, 43 hits, four doubles, eight home runs, 33 RBIs and 21 walks. She scored the game-winning run in the Region I Championship victory over Phoenix College and homered against Jones College at the 2023 NJCAA Division II World Series. 

After missing the 2024 season due to injury, Potter came back in 2025 to bat .333 with nine runs, nine hits, four doubles, three home runs, 14 RBIs, and five walks in 13 games. She returned to the line-up on Mar. 11 vs. Dakota County Technical College and had an RBI double and two walks. She then homered in both ends of a doubleheader against Paradise Valley CC on Apr. 26, including two solo shots in the game-two victory. 

The Benedictine-Mesa Redhawks are an NAIA program that competes in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference. 


Nadia Rascon, Utility --- Benedictine-Mesa

A 2025 First Team All-ACCAC Division II and Region I Division II honoree, Rascon will join Potter on the Redhawks in 2026. Rascon batted .462 with 64 runs, 73 hits, 27 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 71 RBIs, 31 walks, and four stolen bases in 54 games as a sophomore. She produced 20 multi-hit games, including a season-high four hits twice, and homered twice against Paradise Valley CC on Mar. 25 and Pima CC on Mar. 27. At PVCC on Apr. 26, Rascon scored a season-high four runs against Dakota County Technical College on Mar. 11, and sported a .960 fielding percentage in 151 chances. 

In 2024, Rascon batted .437 with 31 runs, 52 hits, eight doubles, 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 25 walks in 45 games. She hit a walk-off, two-run home run to defeat Chandler-Glbert CC in an elimination game in the Region I Division II Tournament, and hit three home runs and drove in six against Eastern Arizona on Mar. 26.
