Dionna Leanio Named NJCAA Third Team All-American

PHOENIX ---

Freshman outfielder Dionna Leanio of the South Mountain Community College softball team earned NJCAA Third Team All-American honors after an impressive 2024 season for the Cougars. A 5-1 left-handed slapper from Phoenix, Leanio led the ACCAC with a .521 batting average in the regular season.

Although an injury curtailed her first year with the Cougars, Leanio appeared in 30 games during the season and posted 41 runs, 50 hits, one double, 10 RBIs, 13 walks, and 23 stolen bases. She had 14 multi-hit games against league opposition, including four-hit games against Pima CC and Scottsdale CC.

Leanio scored multiple runs in nine league games and had a season-high three stolen bases in a contest at Arizona Western. She finished 4 for 4 with four runs, an RBI, and a stolen base in a win over the Fighting Artichokes on Mar. 9. In 24 ACCAC games, Leanio batted .482 with 30 runs, 41 hits, a double, seven RBIs, 10 walks, and 16 stolen bases. Leanio tied for fifth in the conference in stolen bases, tied for 20th in runs, and tied for 25th in hits.

SMCC softball has now boasted an All-American in four straight seasons: Mia Stankiewicz (2021), Kate Hogan (2022), Makaiya Gomez (2023), Brianna Garcia (2023), Anisa Reynolds (2023), and Halle Hogan (2023).
