Julia Ruble Picks Up ACCAC Division II Player of the Week Honors

South Mountain Community College softball freshman Julia Ruble earned Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Division II Player of the Week honors for her play against Yavapai College, the league office announced on Feb. 25. In two games against the Roughriders, Ruble finished 3 for 6 with three runs, two doubles, two RBIs, two walks and a home run.

Ruble, a utility player from Washington High School in Phoenix, has appeared in all 12 Cougar games this season. She sports a .400 batting average, a team-leading five doubles, four home runs and 11 RBIs. Ruble also has a triple and two stolen bases and owns a .943 slugging and .488 on-base percentage.

She had an incredible debut for the Cougars, hitting for the cycle in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Scottsdale Community College on Feb. 4. She had a season-high five hits and four RBIs in the win over the Geckos.

Ruble has also started two games for SMCC and is 1-1 in 7.1 innings of work with three strikeouts. She tossed a complete game in an 18-8 Cougar victory over Gateway Community College on Feb. 15.

She and the Cougars return to action on Saturday. Feb. 29 with a home doubleheader against Eastern Arizona. The first game starts at noon.
