Freshman Genesis Rios scored 12 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, but the South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 71-32 to Chandler-Gilbert CC in an ACCAC Division II contest at the SMCC Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Freshman Kashari Bullard posted new season highs in points (7) and rebounds (9) and freshman Victoria Benito added six rebounds, two points, two steals, and two assists for the Cougars.
Rios' 12 points were one off her season high and she added two rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes. Freshman Jayden Lynch produced four points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 30 minutes. Freshman Janelle Smith had four points, six rebounds, one assist, and one block in 21 minutes.
The game ended with 3:25 left in the fourth quarter due to an injury to a CGCC student-athlete.
