SMCC Women's Basketball Falls to Glendale CC

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (3-4, 0-2 ACCAC Division II) lost 74-37 at Glendale CC in an ACCAC Division II contest on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Sophomore Sadie Gardner scored eight points, and freshman Janelle Smith posted seven points and nine rebounds. However, the Gauchos got out to a quick start and stifled any attempts at a Cougar comeback.
SMCC trailed 28-13 after the first quarter and 38-22 at halftime. GCC won the second half as well, taking the frame 36-15. The Cougars shot 27.1 percent (16 of 59) from the field and totaled 34 rebounds, eight assists, and 12 steals.
Gardner added six rebounds and two steals to her eight points, while Smith had an assist and a steal to go with her seven points and nine boards.
Freshman Genesis Rios knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and recorded two rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Freshman Jayden Lynch led SMCC with four assists and added two rebounds, two points, and two steals.
Freshman Kashari Bullard had four points and four rebounds, and freshman Saleen Rios had four points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Freshman Ramona Gregg grabbed seven rebounds, and freshman Jaya Harris had two points and a board.
