The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 103-34 to No. 6 Pima CC in an ACCAC Division II home contest on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Freshman Victoria Benito scored a season-high 15 points and freshman Saleen Rios posted a season-high eight points off the bench for the Cougars.
The Cougars trailed 56-20 at halftime and fell 47-14 in the second half. SMCC shot 25.5 percent (13 of 51) from the floor and totaled 32 rebounds, six assists, six steals, and two blocks against the sixth-ranked Aztecs.
Benito knocked down five field goals, including a 3-pointer, and was 4 of 6 from the free-throw line in 35 minutes. She added four rebounds and a steal.
Rios connected on three field goals in 15 minutes and made both of her free throws. Her sister, Genesis Rios, posted five points, two assists, one rebound, and one steal in 25 minutes.
Freshman Katie Vucic came off the bench to grab a season-high four rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. She added an assist and a steal in 27 minutes.
Freshman Jayden Lynch led the Cougars with six rebounds and added a steal and an assist, while freshman Kashari Bullard had four points and five rebounds in 31 minutes.
Freshman Janelle Smith had two points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block, and freshman Jaya Harris had the Cougars' other rejection.
