Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team tied for 19th with a final score of +45 (333) at the 2026 NJCAA Division II National Championships from May 12-15 at Ol' Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Playing as an independent, Tuinstra turned in an outstanding performance against some of the nation's best golfers.

Six members of the No. 12 South Mountain Community College women's golf team earned All-ACCAC Division II honors for their play on the links in the 2026 spring season. Freshmen Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez and Molly McDonald joined freshman Lexi Tuinstra, the ACCAC Division II Player of the Year, on the First Team, while freshmen Elaina Hales, Jaycee Garcia, and Mya Foord earned a spot on the Second Team.

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of No. 12 South Mountain Community College women's golf team won ACCAC Region I Women's Golf Player of the Year honors after a stellar 2026 spring campaign that saw her win four tournament, place second at the NJCAA Region I Division II Championships, and post two other top-10 finishes.

The No. 12 South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed second at the 2026 NJCAA Region I Division II Championship with a final team score of +241 (1,377) over April 20-23 at Ocotillo Golf Course in Chandler, Ariz. Freshman Lexi Tuinstra led the Cougars with a second-place finish at +40 (324), five strokes off Mesa's Abree Germaine for individual medalist honors. Freshmen Molly McDonald (sixth, +52, 352), Elaina Hales (seventh, +54, 354) and Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez (eighth, +55, 355) also recorded top-eight finishes for SMCC.

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra claimed individual medalist honors with a final score of +9 (153) at the Chandler-Gilbert Invite on Mar. 31 and Apr. 1 at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez placed fifth at +20 (164) and freshman Elaina Hales placed seventh at +29 (173) to lead the Cougars, who finished second as a team at +90 (666). SMCC was named ACCAC Division II Co-Champions with Mesa CC by winning three of the six spring tournaments.

The No. 12 South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed second at +124 (700) at the Estrella Mountain Invite over Mar. 22-23 at Sundance Golf Course in Buckeye, Ariz. Freshman Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez led the Cougars with a second-place finish at +25 (169), and freshmen Lexi Tuinstra and Molly McDonald tied for fifth at +32 (176).

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team captured individual medalist honors with a final score of +6 (150) at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational over Mar. 16-17 at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Jaycee Garcia placed fourth at +18 (162), freshman Molly McDonald tied for fifth at +25 (169), and the Cougars won the team competition by 25 strokes at +70 (646).

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team won the PVCC Spring Invitational at +20 (162) over Feb. 24-25 at Encanto Golf Course in Phoenix. Tuinstra edged Mesa CC's Abree Germaine by two strokes to claim her second Individual Medalist honor of the 2026 spring season. Freshman Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez tied for fourth at +26 (168), freshman Molly McDonald was sixth at +27 (169), freshman Elaina Hales was seventh at +29 (171), and freshman Jaycee Garcia placed eighth at +39 (181) to round out the Cougars in the top 10.

SMCC Golf Programs Announce New Practice Facility

The South Mountain Community College men's and women's golf programs and head coach Marcus Smith are excited to announce the creation of a new practice facility on the west side of the SMCC Campus. The facility will provide Cougar golfers with two tee areas to play to three smaller greens and two larger greens, helping them improve multiple aspects of their games.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team finished second at +108 (684) at the South Mountain Invitational Feb. 11-12 at Sun City Country Club in Sun City, Ariz. Freshman Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez paced the Cougars with a third-place finish at +21 (165), while freshmen Jaycee Garcia, Lexi Tuinstra, Mya Foord, and Elaina Hales finished sixth through ninth, respectively.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team won the ACCAC Spring Opener at +124 (692) on Jan. 27-28 at Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. The Cougars edged ACCAC rival Mesa CC by five strokes to claim the team title. Individually, SMCC freshman Lexi Tuinstra captured Individual Medalist honors at +16 (158) with two rounds of eight-over, 79.

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra finished third at +18 (162) and posted a 13-stroke improvement in her second round to pace the South Mountain Community College women's golf team at the Mesa Fall Invitational on Nov. 11-12 at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Jaycee Garcia placed fifth at +29 (173), freshman Molly McDonald was sixth at +30 (174), and freshman Elaina Hales was seventh at +35 (179) as the Cougars placed second as a team.

Five Cougars finished in the top 10 as the SMCC women's golf team placed second at +125 (693) at the PVCC Fall Invitational on Nov. 4-5 at the Grand Canyon Golf Course. Freshman Lexi Tuinstra finished third at +26 (168) to pace the Cougars, while freshmen Molly McDonald, Jaycee Garcia, Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez, and Elaina Hales all recorded top-10 finishes at the event.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team competed in the OUAZ Fall Invitational at Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club from Oct. 5-7, finishing eighth amidst a field of NAIA competition. Freshman Jaycee Garcia placed 34th at +38 (254), and fellow freshman Lexi Tuinstra was 36th at +42 (258) to lead the Cougars.

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team opened its 2025 fall season at the 2025 Women's High Country Shootout on Sept. 22-23 at Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club in Alto, N.M. Freshman Lexi Tuinstra led the Cougars by tying for 37th at +28 (170) over the two days of competition, while freshman Jaycee Garcia was 44th at +31 (173), and freshman Elaina Hales tied for 50th at +42 (184) to round out SMCC's top performers.
