SMCC Women's Golf Opens Fall Season at 2025 Women's High Country Shootout

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team opened its 2025 fall season at the 2025 Women's High Country Shootout on Sept. 22-23 at Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club in Alto, N.M. Freshman Lexi Tuinstra led the Cougars by tying for 37th at +28 (170) over the two days of competition, while freshman Jaycee Garcia was 44th at +31 (173), and freshman Elaina Hales tied for 50th at +42 (184) to round out SMCC's top performers. 

Tuinstra, a freshman from Sandpoint, Idaho, opened with a 17-over 88 that featured a birdie on the par-five No. 18. She then posted a six-shot improvement, including a birdie on the par-five No. 18, to finish her second round at 11-over 82. 

Originally from West Jordan, Utah, Garcia started the event with a 17-over 88 and then fired a 14-over 85 in the second round that featured a birdie on the par-three No. 17. 

A freshman from Harrisville, Utah, Hales posted a 19-over 90 in a first round that featured a birdie on the par-three on No. 3. She closed with a 23-over 94 in the second round, where she carded three pars. 

A freshman from Ilkley, West Yorkshire, UK, Molly McDonald finished 53rd at +47 (189) with scores of 20-over 91 and 27-over 98. She had three pars in her first round and carded six more in her second round. 

Originally from West Valley City, Utah, Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez was 55th at +50 (192) with scores of 26-over 97 and 24-over 95. She made par five times in her first round and added four more in her second round. 

Mya Foord, a freshman from Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, was 57th at +63 (205) with scores of 103 and 102. She made par twice in her first round and once in her second round.
