Lexi Tuinstra, No. 12 SMCC Women's Golf Win Third Spring Tournament

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team captured individual medalist honors with a final score of +6 (150) at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational over Mar. 16-17 at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Jaycee Garcia placed fourth at +18 (162), freshman Molly McDonald tied for fifth at +25 (169), and the Cougars won the team competition by 25 strokes at +70 (646).
Tuinstra claimed her third tournament title of the 2026 spring season by six strokes over Mesa CC's Abree Germaine. Tuinstra opened the event with a two-over 74 that featured three birdies and 10 pars. She then carded a four-over 76 in her second round, totaling four birdies and five pars over the 18 holes.
Garcia moved up two spots on the final leaderboard with a second-round score of six-over 78, a six-stroke improvement from her first round. She birdied the par-four No. 3 and the par-three No. 17 and nine pars in her second round. Garcia had eight pars in her first round.
McDonald tied for fifth with MCC's Annalie Kooner at +25 (169) with scores of 10-over 82 and 15-over 87. She birdied the par-five No. 5 and added seven pars in her first round, and totaled seven more pars in her second round.
Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez placed seventh at +26 (170) with scores of nine-over 81 and 17-over 89. She carded two birdies and nine pars over the first 18 holes, and added a birdie and six pars in her second round.
Freshnan Mya Foord was 10th at +38 (182) with scores of 17-over 89 and 21-over 93. She had three pars in the first round and a birdie and one par in her second round.
SMCC led by 18 strokes after posting a score of 33-over 321, and finished at 37-over 325 in the second round to add seven strokes to their margin of victory.
