SMCC Women's Golf Posts Impressive Performances at PVCC Fall Invitational

Five Cougars finished in the top 10 as the SMCC women's golf team placed second at +125 (693) at the PVCC Fall Invitational on Nov. 4-5 at the Grand Canyon Golf Course. Freshman Lexi Tuinstra finished third at +26 (168) to pace the Cougars, while freshmen Molly McDonaldJaycee GarciaMadilyn Hongell-Jimenez, and Elaina Hales all recorded top-10 finishes at the event. 

Tuinstra opened the tournament with a 14-over 85 that featured six pars. In her second round, Tuinstra posted a birdie on the par-five No. 10 and added seven more pars en route to a 12-over 83. 

McDonald tied for fourth at +27 (169) with scores of 85 and 84. She had six pars in her first round and six more in her second round. 

Garcia finished sixth at +33 (175) with scores of 90 and 85. She carded a birdie on the par-four No. 14 and added three pars in her first round, and then recorded six more pars in her second round. 

Hongell-Jimenez placed eighth at +42 (184) with rounds of 91 and 93. She had three pars in her first round and three more in her second 18 holes. 

Hales was ninth at +44 (186) with scores of 96 and 90. She had four pars in her first round and four more in her second round. 

Mya Foord was 12th at +53 (195) with scores of 94 and 101. She posted two pars in her first round and one in her second. 

SMCC finished 21 strokes behind first-place Mesa CC.
