Lexi Tuinstra and SMCC Women's Golf Win PVCC Spring Invitational

Freshman Lexi Tuinstra of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team won the PVCC Spring Invitational at +20 (162) over Feb. 24-25 at Encanto Golf Course in Phoenix. Tuinstra edged Mesa CC's Abree Germaine by two strokes to claim her second Individual Medalist honor of the 2026 spring season. Freshman Madilyn Hongell-Jimenez tied for fourth at +24 (168), freshman Molly McDonald was sixth at +25 (169), freshman Elaina Hales was seventh at +27 (171), and freshman Jaycee Garcia placed eighth at +37 (181) to round out the Cougars in the top 10.  

Tuinstra opened with birdies on the par-five No. 1 and the par-four No. 4 in her first round. She added seven pars to finish at 11-over 83 for the 18 holes. In the second round, Tuinstra closed with pars on three of the final four holes and a birdie on the par-four No. 17. She added another eight pars in the round to card a seven-over 79 and claim the tournament title by two strokes. 

Hongell-Jimenez posted a 10-over 82 in her first round behind nine pars, including five on the back nine. She added six more pars in her second round to post a 14-over 86 and finish tied for fourth. 

McDonald posted an eight-over 80 in her first round as she carded 11 pars over the opening 18 holes. She added another seven pars in her second round to post a 17-over 89 and finish sixth. 

Hales opened with a 13-over 85 behind eight pars in the first round. In the second round, Hales birdied the par-four No. 4 and produced another six pars to finish at 14-over 86 and place seventh. 

Garcia had seven pars in her first round to post a 15-over 87, and added another six in her second round to finish at 22-over 94. 

Freshman Mya Foord was 12th at +46 (190) with two rounds of 95. She had three pars in her second round after one on the first day. 

SMCC and Mesa CC tied for the team title, but the Cougars won the scorecard playoff because Foord's score was three strokes better than MCC's Addison Miller, who was 14th at +49 (193).
