Kaedon Smith, SMCC Men's Golf Capture South Mountain ACCAC Spring Tournament Titles

Freshman Kaedon Smith won Individual Medalist honors with a final score of -7 (135) at the South Mountain ACCAC Spring Invite Mar. 1-2 at Apache Creek Golf Course in Apache Junction, Ariz. Smith was one of three Cougars to post a top-five finish as freshman Quinton Breuer placed second at -5 (137) and sophomore PJ Segerstrom was fourth at -3 (139). As a team, SMCC claimed the team title at -3 (565) to defeat second-place Mesa CC by nine strokes. 

Smith carded a three-under 68 in his first round with four birdies, including two of the first three holes. On the second day, Smith posted a four-under 67 and recorded six more biridies to finish at -7 (135). He edged his teammate Breuer by two strokes for Individual Medalist honors. 

Breuer was second at -5 (137) with scores of even-par 71 and five-under 66. He recorded three birdies in his first round and added six more of the final 18 holes. 

Segerstrom was fourth at -3 (139) with scores of five-under 66 and two-over 73. He closed in a fury in the first round, recording six birdies over the final 11 holes to pos the 66. He added one birdie in his second round. 

Freshman Tyler Weihe tied for sixth at +1 (143) with scores of three-under 68 and four-over 75. He had three birdies in his first round and five more in his second. 

Freshman Hudson Ross tied for eighth at +2 (144) with rounds of even-par 71 and two-over 73. He posted five birdies in his first round and added three more in his second round.

Sophomore Luke Padilla and freshman Cooper Perkinson tied for 11th at +4 (146). Padilla posted two rounds of two-over 73 with two birdies in his first round and an eagle three on the par-five No. 15 in his second round. Perkinson carded one birdie in his first round en route to a three-over 74. In the second round, Perkinson had two birdies and recorded an eagle three on the par-five No. 10. 

SMCC opened with a three-under 281 to post a nine-stroke lead over MCC. The Cougars then recorded an even-par 284 to maintain their nine-stroke advantage and claim the team title.
