SMCC Men's Golf Opens 2026 Spring Season at Lions Spring Classic

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team placed third with a final team score of +7 (575) at the Estrella Mountain-Lions Spring Classic Jan. 27-28 at Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. Freshman Quinton Breuer paced the Cougars with a fourth-place finish at -3 (139) on the par-71 course, while freshman Lucian Meller tied for 10th at +4 (146), freshman Hudson Ross was 13th at +5 (147), and freshman Tyler Weihe tied for 14th at +6 (148).
Breuer opened with a two-under 69 that featured an eagle two on the par-four No. 2 and three birdies over the final seven holes. In his second round, Breuer carded another three birdies to post a one-under 70 and fourth place by one stroke.
Meller also had an eagle in his opening round, posting a three on the par-five No. 5 en route to a two-over 73 for the day. He birdied two of the first three holes in his second round to finish at 73 again and earn a top-10 finish.
Ross carded a four-over 75 on the opening day with two birdies over the final five holes. He improved in round two, posting a one-over 72 with three birdies to move up four spots in the final standings.
Weihe moved up nine spots on the final leaderboard with a two-under 69 in round two that featured four birdies. He opened with an eight-over 79 and one birdie.
Freshman Cooper Perkinson was 18th at +8 (150) with scores of 74 and 76. He recorded two birdies on each day.
The Cougars sat in fourth after day one with a score of +7 (291), and moved past Mesa CC to take third after posting an E (284).
