Jack Taylor Posts Commanding Victory at Thunderbird Fall Classic

Sophomore Jack Taylor finished at -17 (127) to win the Thunderbird Fall Classic on Nov. 11-12 at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Taylor carded rounds of nine-under 63 and eight-under 64 to win individual medalist honors by eight strokes. Sophomore PJ Segerstrom tied for seventh at -3 (141), and the Cougars finished second as a team at -18 (558), five strokes off tournament winner and host Mesa CC.
On the first day, Taylor opened with a birdie on the par-four No. 2 and, after a bogey on the par-four No. 5, posted nine birdies over the final 14 holes to finish at 63. He went bogey-free on the second day and carded another eight birdies, four on both the front and back nine, to claim individual medalist honors.
Segerstrom rebounded from a one-over 73 in his first round to post a four-under 68 in his second round. He had three birdies and four bogeys in his first round, but improved to five birdies and one bogey in his second round. He competed as an individual.
Freshman Quinton Breuer tied for 12th at E (144) with rounds of 74 and 70. His first round featured three birdies, four bogeys, a double-bogey on the par-three No. 5, and an eagle three on the par-five No. 18. Breuer then recorded four birdies and two bogeys in his second round to move up six spots on the leaderboard.
Freshman Kaedon Smith tied for 16th at +1 (145), moving up six spots on the leaderboard after a final-round, two-under 70. He had four birdies and two bogeys over the final 18 holes, and posted three birdies and six bogeys in the first round to finish at three-over 75.
Freshman Cooper Perkinson placed 18th at +3 (147) with scores of 69 and 78. In his first round, Perkinson registered five birdies, two double-bogeys, and an eagle three on the par-five No. 5. His second round featured two birdies, but also six birdies and one double-bogey.
Freshman Hudson Ross tied for 19th at +4 (148) with rounds of 72 and 76. Ross produced three birdies, three bogeys, a double-bogey, and an eagle three on the par-five No. 18 to finish at even-par. He posted another eagle on No. 18 in the second round, but also had three double-bogeys, one bogey, and two birdies.
Freshman Lucian Meller tied for 21st at +5 (149) with rounds of 72 and 77. He had three birdies, one bogey, and one double-bogey in his first round to finish at even-par, but his second round featured three birdies, six bogeys, and one double-bogey. He competed as an individual.
SMCC led by three strokes after day one, posting a -10 (278). However, the Thunderbirds carded a -16 (272) on the second day to supplant the Cougars, who finished at -8 (280).
