Cooper Perkinson, SMCC Men's Golf Win Paradise Valley CC Fall Invitational

Freshman Cooper Perkinson won the Paradise Valley CC Fall Invitational with a final score of -6 (136) on Nov. 4-5 at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz. Perkinson opened with a five-under 66 to hold off a challenger from Eastern Arizona and claim individual medalist honors. Freshman Hudson Ross placed third at -2 (138), freshman Quinton Breuer tied for fourth at +2 (144), freshmen Kaedon Smith and Lucian Meller tied for sixth at +3 (139), and freshman Tyler Weihe placed ninth at +5 (147) to join Perkinson in the top 10 and help lead SMCC to a first-place finish at +6 (574). 

Perkinson (picutred right) posted six birdies in his opening round and added three more in his second round to claim the tournament title. He was the only golfer in the field to post an under-par score (-1, 70) in the second round. 

Ross opened with a two-under 69 that featured four birdies. He added three more in his second round to finish at even-par 71, one of three golfers to post that score. 

Smith had three birdies in his first round to finish at two-over 73, and added four more in his second round to finish at one-over 72. Meller carded three birdies in his first round en route to a three-over 74, and improved to even-par 71 in his second round behind two more birdies. 

Weihe rounded out the Cougars in the top 10 with a three-over 74 in round one and a two-over 73 in the second round that featured one birdie. 

Sophomore PJ Segerstrom tied for 11th at +7 (149) with scores of three-over 74 and four-over 75. He had three birdies in his first round and added two more in his second. 

Dane Glesbrecht tied for 22nd at +14 (156) with scores of three-over 74 and 11-over 82. He had four birdies over the 36 holes. 

The Cougars held a two-stroke lead over Eastern Arizona after round one, and increased their advantage by 13 in the second round to win the tournament by 15 strokes.
