Cougar Men's Golf Place Second at Embry-Riddle Fall Invite

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team placed second at +8 (868) at the Embry-Riddle Fall Invite with the first two rounds on Monday, Oct. 13, at Antelope Hills North Course (Prescott, Ariz.) and the final round on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Capital Canyon Club (Prescott, Ariz.). Sophomore Jorge Parada led the Cougars individually, finishing third at -3 (212) while sophomores Jack Taylor and PJ Segerstrom tied for sixth at +1 (216).
Facing a group of NAIA programs, the Cougars battled with the host Eagles for the tournament title. SMCC finished at -12 (564) after the first day to trail ERAU by eight strokes. The venue change saw the Cougars post a +20 (304) and pick up two strokes on the Eagles, but they could not overcome the deficit.
Parada opened with a three-under 69 that featured five birdies. He had three more birdies in his second round to finish with an even-par 72, and ended at even-par 71 in his round at the Capital Canyon Club with two more birdies.
Taylor finished with four birdies to post a one-over 73 in his first round, and added four more birdies and an eagle three on the par-five No. 2 in his second round to finish at four-under 68. He had one birdie in his final round to record a four-over 75.
Segerstrom carded six birdies in his first round to post a five-under 67, and recorded three more plus an eagle three on the par-five No. 2 in the second round to post a two-under 70. He closed with an eight-over 79 in his round at Capital Canyon Club.
Sophomore Luke Padilla competed individually and placed 13th at +7 (222). He recorded five birdies in his first round to finish at three-under 69, and posted seven more in his second round to finish at two-under 70. He closed with a 12-over 83 in his third round.
Freshman Cooper Perkinson tied for 16th at +10 (225). He posted five birdies over the first two rounds to sit at two-over 146 after two rounds of 73. He then posted an eight-over 79 in his third round.
Freshman Hudson Ross tied for 21st at +12 (227). He had two birdies and an eagle three on the par-five No. 5 in his first round, and added three more birdies in his second round to sit at +4 (148). Ross had one birdie in his final round to finish at eight-over 79.
