SMCC Men's Golf Freshman Hudson Ross Wins Sundance Invite

PHOENIX ---

Freshman Hudson Ross of the South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Sundance Invite hosted by Ottawa Univeristy (AZ) on Sept. 23-24 at Sundance Golf Course in Buckeye, Ariz. Hudson carded a seven-under 65 in the second round to finish at -3 (141) and win individual medalist honors by three strokes over competitors from the OUAZ men's team. Freshmen Tyler Weihe and Lucian Meller tied for 10th at +9 (153).

Ross rebounded from a four-over 76 in the first round to card a tournament-best 65 in his second round. He was one of three student-athletes to post a round under par over the two days, and Ross was the only competitor to finish with a round in the 60s.

Weihe carded rounds of five-over 77 and four-over 76, while Meller posted scores of one-over 73 and eight-over 80.

The trio competed as individuals at the tournament, and faced competition from OUAZ, Paradise Valley CC, Chandler-Gilbert CC, Park-Gilbert, Benedictine-Mesa, Arizona Christian University, and Hope International.
