SMCC's Jorge Parada Wins 2025 Arizona Stroke Play Championship

Jorge Parada of the South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the 2025 Arizona Stroke Play Championship with a final score of -27 (257). Parada carded rounds of 64, 65, 63, and 65 on the par-71 course to win the event, which ran from July 10-13 on the Padre Course at Camelback Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz., by three strokes over Johnnie Clark of Mesa. Parada had an outstanding freshman season for the Cougars in 2025, highlighted by NJCAA First Team All-American honors and winning the 2025 NJCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman award. 

Parada opened with seven birdies and zero bogeys in his first round en route to a seven-under 64. He finished under par on four straight holes during the round, posting birdies on the second through the fifth. 

In his second round, Parada recorded five birdies over the front nine and added two more on the back nine to post a six-under 65. Round three saw Parada post seven birdies and an eagle two on the par-four No. 12. 

Parada overcame a bogey on the first hole to post six more birdies and an eagle two on the par-four No. 14 in his final round to record a six-under 65. For the tournament, Parada recorded a birdie in each round on the par-four No. 5 and was under par three times on the second, 12th, and 14th holes. 

He tied for sixth at the NJCAA National Championships at +8 (296) to earn First Team NJCAA All-American honors and also was a 2025 First Team NJCAA Division II Ping All-American. Parada won the Region I Championships at -5 (279) and the CGCC Tournament at -7 (137) and placed second at the TankLogix & Tall City Collegiate at -6 (207). 

Several other Cougars competed at the event. 

Jack Taylor tied for 14th at -8 (276) with scores of 66, 74, 67, and 69. He produced 22 birdies over the four days, including seven in the final round. Earlier this year, Taylor tied for 29th at the NJCAA National Championships at +17 (305) and tied for first at the Glendale Spring Tournament at -4 (140). 

PJ Segerstrom tied for 24th at -4 (280) with scores of 73, 68, 69, and 70. He carded 21 birdies over the four rounds, including six in his first and third rounds. Segerstrom earned NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors by tying for 26th at the NJCAA National Championships at +15 (303).
