Scott Winter enters his third season in 2025-26 after joining the SMCC men's basketball program during the 2023-24 season.

During Coach Winter's tenure at SMCC, four players have earned a spot on the All-ACCAC Division II All-Conference Teams. In 2024-25, Cash Callaway was named All-ACCAC DII First Team.  In 2023-24, Jaylen Wesley received All-ACCAC DII First Team & All-ACCAC All-Region DII First Team honors, while Bobby Holcomb & Parker Escalante were named All-ACCAC DII Third Team.

Winter has had a long career in the corporate business world, serving others and coaching individuals on life skills, which has led them to success.  Winter's focus will center on serving the Cougars and developing leaders in the South Mountain area community.  He is a community Board Member on the Laveen Elementary School District Trust Board. Also, he serves on the board of an Arizona non-profit, where he focuses on helping young adults navigate life's challenges in South Phoenix.

Winter has lived in the Phoenix area for most of his adult life and has deep generational family roots in South Phoenix where he and his immediate family have lived since 2009.

Winter is a first-generation college graduate, having started his education at Glendale Community College.  He later received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2005, followed by a Master's in IT Project Management from The George Washington University in 2008, and a Master's Degree in Theological Studies from Gateway Seminary in 2023. 

Winter is also an active Cougar, completing his certificate in Web App Development in 2023 and continuing his personal growth as he walks side by side with students in the South Mountain Community College experience.
