Cougar Volleyball Sweeps Cleveland CC (NC)

Sophomore Amanda Mitan led the South Mountain CC women's volleyball team with 11 kills, freshman Tallulah Johnson posted nine, and sophomore Alyssa Szymanski added eight, including the match winner, as the Cougars posted a 3-0 victory over Cleveland CC (NC) in a non-conference match at Mesa CC on Sept. 19. Freshman Morgan Moraga recorded seven kills, sophomore Ailynn Solis had a team-high 26 assists, and freshman Ava Moreno finished with a team-high 14 digs as SMCC posted its first win of the 2025 season. 

SMCC won in straight sets over the visiting Yetis from North Carolina: 25-18, 25-22, and 25-22. The Cougars hit .360 with 11 kills on 25 attacks in the first set and recorded 16 on 42 swings in set two.

The Cougars added 14 more kills in the third set to secure the victory with a season-best 41 kills. They also finished with 39 assists, six service aces, 50 digs, one solo block, and 12 block assists. 

Mitan hit a blistering .647 on 17 attacks and added three digs, one service ace, and one block assist over the three sets. Johnson hit .350 on 20 swings to finish with nine kills, and she added eight digs, two assists, and two service aces. 

Szymanski posted eight kills on 18 swings to hit .278 with two block assists and a dig, while Moraga hit .294 in 17 attacks to post seven kills. She led SMCC with five block assists and added a dig. 

Solis finished with a season-high 26 assists and added three digs and a service ace, while freshman Allie Encinas had nine digs, eight assists, and a service ace. Moreno led the Cougars with 14 digs and added three assists in the victory, while freshman Keira Allen had five digs and a service ace. 

Freshman Julia Abdelsalam recorded three kills and three block assists, and sophomore Abby Kilpatrick added three kills and a block assist.
