Jose Lugo, Assistant Coach
Jose returns to the SMCC staff for his 2nd year. Previously, he enjoyed a successful stint with Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. He assisted former Arizona State University standout Amanda Burbridge for a season which was highlighted by a state title in the 5AA division.
Jose came to the valley from Tucson, where he coached the freshman girls’ team at Sahuaro High School and assisted the varsity girls’ team. During his time at Sahuaro, the Varsity team won the region on four straight occasions, including a perfect 16-0 region record; the team also made it to the state tournament quarterfinals three straight times.
He has been a part of the Tucson and Phoenix club volleyball scene as well, coaching for Zona volleyball club, and most recently, the Arizona Volleyball Academy. At the latter he has helped train setters, run practices and coach clinics.
In the summertime, he serves as a clinician for the David Rubio Volleyball Camps, held at the University of Arizona.
He has coached at the youth levels of volleyball for ten years, and is very excited to continue to be a part of the South Mountain staff.
