2007 Volleyball Camp

“During the week of July 31st through August 2nd the volleyball team held their second annual Cougar Volleyball Camps and had a great time!  The morning camp, grades 5th – 8th started bright and early for the summertime at 9:00AM and finished at 11:30AM.

2007 Campers

Campers grades 5-8 show off their bounty from the
World Famous Serving Contest!

The level of play for the morning campers was varied but everyone worked extremely hard and improved immensely!  Campers in attendance were from schools including Altadena Middle, Madison Meadows, Copper Ridge, to name a few and several players experienced volleyball for the first time!!

The 2 awards given each year are the Most Improved and Best Attitude camper honors and this year Tawney Luna was selected by the coaches as the Most Improved Camper and Emma Dooley walked away with the Best Attitude Award.

2007 Camp PM

Campers grades 9-12 pose with their coaches, the
2007 SMCC Volleyball Team.

The PM camp ran from 1pm-4pm and included the high school girls grades 9-12.  Many had played before and several were return campers from last year and from Coach Mooney’s previous camps at another school.  The Wickenburg Wrangler group returned again this year along with campers from Shadow Mtn, and as far away as Maricopa and Boulder Creek!!  Each camper received a t-shirt and completed the skills of volleyball focusing on technique development while being provided a game situation at the end of each camp day to implement those new techniques.  The award winners for the PM camp were Wittnee Estes for Most Improved and camp veteran Juliana Manzanarez for Best Attitude.

All campers from both camps were invited to attend a match and bring their teams this fall season to cheer on the 2007 version of Cougar Volleyball.  Camp for 2008 will be held the same week, July 28th through July 31st,  so mark that down on your calendars and plan on being here again next year!!”
