A native of Minnesota, Matt Bjorklund is in his first year as an assistant coach for the Cougars and also serves as the recruiting coordinator.  This will be Bjorklund's 11th season overall as a coach having spent the past seven years in Arizona.   

Prior to SMCC, Bjorklund was the girl's basketball head coach at Tempe Marcos de Niza where he lead the Lady Padres to a quarter and semifinal state tournament appearances in Class 5A-II and an overall record of 36-26.  Bjorklund has also served as a women's basketball graduate assistant at Arizona State University under Charli Turner-Thorne during the Sun Devils two most successful seasons in the programs history.   He also has been a boy's varsity basketball coach at Becker High School in Minnesota where he was  involved with many other athletics; having coached basketball, golf, football, and tennis.

Bjorklund graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota with a degree in Education and completed his Master's in Educational Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University.  He is currently a history teacher at Tempe Marcos de Niza.
