Carefree, AZ – South Mountain Freshman Branden Barron plays solid in the first round at the Arizona Open to lead the way for not only the Cougar golfers in the tournament but is tied for low amateur in the Open after round 1. Barron found his touch with the wedge in his hand as he chipped in 3 times from around the green during his afternoon round. Not far behind Barron are Sophomore Adam Winwood firing a 73, Freshman Anthony Depalma at 73, and Scott Brace at 74.

Other Cougar golfers battling to make the cut after Friday’s 2nd round will be Sophomore Chace Nathe who shot 78 and Freshman Travis Graves who equaled Nathe at 78. Results for the 2008 AT&T Arizona Open can be found on www.southwest.pga.com under the tournaments tab.
