Congratulations are in order for SMCC men's soccer coach Mark Wilson and midfielder Dom Papa as both were recognized for their outstanding seasons by the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference this week.
Wilson, who has brought the SMCC men's soccer program up from the ground with two consecutive Region I appearances, was one of four coaches named as co-coaches of the year.
Papa, a sophomore transfer, was named a first-team member of the All-ACCAC team after he netted 17 goals and added 12 assists to lead the Cougars in scoring and finish third in the conference with 46 points.
Also honored were defensmen Edwin Estrada (second team) and Luiz Paez (third
team.)
The Cougars (10-7-2) finished in third place in the ACCAC this season and defeated Scottsdale, 1-0, in the opening round of the NJCAA Region I tournament.
They'll face Pima in the second round Thursday.
The award was the second in less than a year for Wilson, who was named the Class 5A-I Girls Soccer Coach of the Year after guiding Phoenix Mountain Pointe to the 2008 soccer title.
