RIO RICO, AZ – South Mountain’s Men’s Golf Team started conference play this past weekend at Rio Rico Resort, in the Pima Community College Invitational. The Cougars played steady golf both days battling windy conditions the first day firing 290 with a second place finish firing 290 the first day followed by the low team score the second day of 289 which was good enough to land them in 2nd place, 9 shots clear of Mesa Community College and just behind Scottsdale Community College.
The Cougars were led by Freshman Scott Brace and Sophomore Nic Banfield. Brace fired rounds of 69 and 73 to finish 1 shot behind a dead lock at the top and take 3rd place individual honors just ahead of Banfield who finished in 4th place with solid rounds of 74 and 69.
Other Notables from the tournament were Sophomores Nick Bisogno who shot 76 and 71, A.J. Joiner who shot 74 and 76, and Freshman Chace Nathe who shot 73 and 79
For now the Cougars will turn their focus to their next tournament, the Paradise Valley Invitational to be held at the par 72, 7,102 yard Golf Club of Estrella March 3rd & 4th in Goodyear, Arizona.
