Freshman Gabe Plaza fired rounds of 73 34 70 to finish in 4th place during the Western New Mexico University Cactus Thaw played in Silver City, NM.  Plaza led the tournament in Par 5 scoring at -7 but missed the three way playoff won by WNMU player Eric Chavez.  “This was my first college tournament so I am happy but I need to continue to work on my putting,” Plaza said.

On the final day the men’s program fired a 280 to finish in 3rd place. Freshman Nicolas Banfield and Keenan Holt fired rounds of 68 and 69 to pace the cougars.  The cougars just missed beating the defending NJCAA Champions Midland CC by 3 shots.  “The golf course was interesting and required the players to stay patient and play smart.” “I am excited with our freshman play but we still have a lot of work to do,” said Coach Brown.  The men’s golf team begins ACCAC Conference play next week at the Pima Invitational played at Rio Rico CC in Nogales, AZ on 2/18-19.
