Maurer & Aydelotte Win Inaugural Cougar Cup
Sophomore Chris Maurer and freshman Scott Aydelotte fired 17 under to win the inaugural Cougar Cup. The 36-hole tournament was played over the Labor Day weekend at Quail Wood Greens Golf Club in Dewey, Arizona.
Twelve members of the golf program journeyed north for the weekend. “This event gave us the opportunity to escape the valley heat and let our players get to know each other a little better,” said coach Brown. Only two teams could come within six strokes of the champions. After playing their first nine holes in seven under their confidence was growing. “We came to play,”said Scott Aydelotte.
The golf program now looks ahead to the start of the 2004 Cougar Match Play Championship that begins on September 8th. The 2003 champion, Matt Rutledge, will try to defend his title in this double elimination format.
