Sept 22, 2004 - Matt Rutledge wins 2004 Cougar Match Play Championship

Matt Rutledge

Sophomore, Matt Rutledge defended his 2003 championship by beating freshman, Scott Aydelotte, 2 & 1 at Club West Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona.  This was the second time Rutledge and Aydelotte had squared off in the tournament. “Scott was not the player I wanted to meet in the final.” “He is real solid and will take it to you if you are not on top of your game.” “Winning the tournament gives me a new level of confidence,” said Rutledge.

The men’s golf program is now preparing for the Northern Arizona Amateur hosted by the Arizona Golf Association to be played at Antelope Hills Oct. 2-3rd.  In 2002, past SMCC golfer, Russell Bergstedt III, won the event.
