Sophomore Nick Carlson won the 2005 Cougar Match Play Championship by defeating Scott Aydelotte 3 & 1 at the Legacy Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona. The final match was a roller coaster match with three lead changes. In the end, Carlson made the big putts to put the match away. “I really wanted to win this match and knew it would be tough playing Scott in the championship,” Carlson said.
Aydelotte was upset during round one by freshman Alex Valer but went on to win his next six matches. “I really thought I could win the final match after beating Nick on Monday, but the ball would not fall into the hole today,” said Aydelotte. This was the second year Aydelotte had finished second in the championship. The men’s golf program now begins the 2005 “5” Iron Open.
