South Mountain continues its' trek through the losers bracket of the JUCO World Series defeating Hutchinson Community College 11-8 today to boost their record to 48-19. The Cougars forge ahead to win their second game in a row behind the sophomore leadership of CJ Retherford(Chandler, Arizona) who started on the mound. Retherford went the distance pitching all nine innings allowing thirteen hits and striking out seven. The Arizona State bound sophomore batted in three runs to add to his cause. Isaiah Ka'aihue went three for three including a solo homerun, his second of the tournament.
Josh Tarnow (Chandler, AZ) also went two for three in the contest. South Mountain scored many of their runs in the second, third, and fourth innings but remained scoreless in the latter innings.
The Blue Dragons did not go down quietly. After falling behind 4-11 by the end of the sixth inning, Hutchinson scored two more runs in the seventh, one in the eighth, and another in the ninth before the Cougars closed them down during a swirling wind in Grand Junction, Colorado.
South Mountain will play the loser of New Mexico Jr. College and Iowa Western, Tuesday at 3:00PM.
