May 28, 2005 - JUCO World Series - SMCC VS. Texarkana Bulldogs

The South Mountain Community College Cougar Baseball team suffered a disappointing loss against the Texarkana Bulldogs Saturday in the JUCO World Series held in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Cougar bats were on fire in the first inning allowing the Arizona team to jump out to a 4 run lead. South Mountain added one run in the second, fourth, and seventh inning to take a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs would not be denied and jump-started their bats scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Texarkana tied the game up with another big inning in the eighth, scoring 4 more runs. With the game tied, Texarkana scored the game winning run on a safety squeeze in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.

Scott Mueller, starting pitcher for the Cougars, went seven innings allowing 8 hits and 4 walks; Earnest Moraga was the losing pitcher. Luis Neiblas was the bright spot for the Cougars going 3 for 4 at the plate. South had 12 hits including 5 doubles, and committed 2 errors.

Texas had 14 hits and 3 errors. James Richmond was the winning pitcher.

The loss drops South Mountain down to the losers bracket and will play at 2:00PM on Sunday facing Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Oklahoma lost a close decision to Wallace State College 7-8.
