Danelle Dykstra joined the South Mountain staff as the head athletic trainer in 2007. She is also adjunct faculty teaching exercise health education classes.
A native of Pleasantville, Iowa, Danelle graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 2005 with a degree in Athletic Training. She will receive her master’s degree this summer in Athletic Training from A.T. Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences. From 2005-2007, Danelle was the athletic trainer at Santa Cruz Valley Union High School in Eloy, AZ.
Danelle manages over 150 athletes in 9 sports at SMCC. This fall she will be the Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for athletic training students from Grand Canyon University. The GCU students are enrolled in an athletic training program and each semester are assigned to different levels of athletic training competencies.
In June of 2008 she presented at the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) annual meeting in St Louis MO. The presentation was titled “The Relationship between Pitching, Injury and Pain History and Health-Related Quality of Life in High School and College Female Softball Pitchers.” Danelle continues to study and collect data in this area while at SMCC.
While an undergraduate at Central College, Danelle presented on “Impact an Evaluation of Concussions” in March 2005 at the Mid-America Athletic Trainers' Association meeting.
