Andy Walker

Assistant Men’s Golf Coach

The South Mountain Community College men’s golf team has tremendous success due, in large part, to a tremendous coaching staff. A great majority of the support falls on the shoulders of former PGA Tour Player Andy Walker.

Walker is in his fourth season as the assistant coach with the Cougar golf program. During his time assisting Coach Jake Harrington he has helped lead the Cougars to two national championships in 2010 and 2012.

“I’m excited to be able to have not just somebody who had tremendous success throughout his time at Pepperdine, where he won a national championship in 1997 and tons of success as a professional golfer, but also a great friend and somebody who brings a knowledge and understanding of the game and how to develop young talent.” said head coach Jake Harrington.

Andy has played golf competitively at the highest levels for 31 years in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), Collegiately (Pepperdine University), and Professionally (PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, Canadian Tour, Gateway Tour, Hooters Tour).   Some of Andy’s accomplishments are:

  • Walker had a very successful collegiate career which started at Scottsdale Community College where he helped lead the ‘Chokes to the 1994 NJCAA National Championship while finishing individually as a Second Team All-American. After a year at SCC he joined his friend Jason Gore at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. During his time at Pepperdine Walker was named to the All West Coast Conference First Team twice, West Coast Conference Individual Champion, and part of the 1997 NCAA National Championship Team.

  • During Walker’s professional career he recorded 28 victories, 70+ top-10 finishes, and career earnings of over $750,000. From 2006-2010 he carded 137 competitive rounds in the 60’s with a stroke average of 69.6 and a low round of 60.

“Andy knows the team, he knows our goal- which is to graduate champion young men both on and off the golf course,” Harrington said. “Our players come to our program because they have a desire to play golf at the NCAA level and on the PGA Tour, and Andy understands that because he has been there himself.”

Andy teaches full time at The Legacy Golf Academy located at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, AZ which is home to the South Mountain Community College Men’s Golf Team. His notable students are: Jason Gore – PGA Tour Winner, Teammate at Pepperdine University, Jaime Gomez – PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour Winner, Anthony Rodriguez – PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, Big Break Contestant, Ozzie Smith – MLB Hall of Fame, Larry Fitzgerald – NFL All-Pro, Seth Joyner – Super Bowl Champion, Jimmy Kozikowski – 2012 Jack Nicklaus Award Winner and 2011 Phil Mickelson Award Winner, and dozens more professionals, collegiate players, juniors and amateurs.
