Shea Fleck enters his fifth season on the baseball staff as the Cougars hitting and infield coach.  The 2008 season will be Coach Fleck’s 10th year coaching collegiate baseball.  Fleck also serves as the third base coach for the Cougars on game day.  Under his watch, the SMCC hitters have compiled a .299 batting average, 428 doubles, 80 home runs, and 1130 runs batted in over the last three years.  These statistics have proven to be successful in the ACCAC, which has been a wood-bat conference the last five years.

Since arriving at South Mountain CC in the fall of 2003, Coach Fleck has coached 13 professionally drafted hitters. Another 19 of his hitters have received scholarships to four-year universities.  Since Coach Fleck has been at SMCC, 7 hitters have earned All-Conference and All-Region honors for their accomplishments with the bat.  Coach Fleck serves as an adjunct faculty in the Physical Education Department at SMCC and also works in SMCC Fitness Center.

Shea Fleck played high school baseball in the state of Washington, where he earned a scholarship to play for Gonzaga University.  Fleck pitched and played third base for the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 1990-1993.  During his senior year, Fleck was named the Male Athlete of the Year at Gonzaga. In 1993, he graduated from Gonzaga with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.  In 1993, Fleck played professional baseball in Holland.  In 1994 he returned to Washington and served as an Assistant Baseball coach at Centralia Community College for one year.  After a brief stint away from coaching, Fleck became the Co-Head Baseball coach at Tacoma Community College from 2001-2003.  While at Tacoma CC, he helped lead the Titans to their first divisional championship in 20 years.  In the summer of 2003, Fleck moved to Arizona and became an Assistant Baseball coach at South Mountain CC.  He currently resides in Surprise with wife Marne and son Camron Shea.
