Assistant Baseball Coach
Michael Collins enters his second season as a member of the Cougars coaching staff. Coach Collins will be working with the middle infielders and helping out with the hitters. He will also help the Cougars in recruiting student-athletes. Collins came to South Mountain CC after spending a year as an undergraduate manager on the Arizona State University baseball staff. In 2008, Coach Collins led the Cougar hitters to a .302 batting average, 5th best in the ACCAC.
Collins played his prep baseball at Mountain Pointe HS in Phoenix, AZ. He then attended Arizona State University from 1996-1998. At Arizona State, Collins played 176 games in the infield, including NCAA Regional finals in 1997 and 1998, as well as the College World Series in 1998. In 1998, he was named to the All-College World Series team after a standout performance in the Series. Collins signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1998, playing eight seasons in the minor leagues (Dodgers, Mariners, and Mets). He reached the AAA level with both the Mariners and Mets. He was a member of championship teams at both the A and AA levels of the Dodgers. Michael currently resides in El Mirage, AZ with his wife Joannie and daughter Mia.
